Safari Shirt

Bush and field shirt with bellows chest pockets, epaulettes and back vent. Sized on chest with EU, UK and US equivalents. Both short and long sleeve lengths are given — a safari shirt is usually ordered in both, so the grade is shown side by side.

3 · How To Measure — lay the shirt flat, buttons fastened, smooth out wrinkles

A½ Chest. Straight across, 2.5 cm below the armhole seam.

B½ Waist. Straight across at the narrowest point of the body.

CShoulder. Seam to seam across the back at the shoulder points.

DSleeve long. Shoulder seam along the sleeve to the cuff edge.

ESleeve short. Shoulder seam to the finished sleeve hem.

FBack length. Highest point of the shoulder straight down to the hem.

G½ Hem. Straight across the bottom opening.

—Collar. Along the inside of the collar band, button fastened.

House safari detailing: two bellows chest pockets 14 cm wide × 16 cm deep with 3 cm gussets and buttoned flaps, epaulettes, a single-piece back yoke with a hidden vent, and roll-up sleeve tabs on the long-sleeve version. All of it is optional — delete the epaulettes, change to patch pockets, add a cape back or a mesh-lined vent, and we re-pattern before sampling.

Safari Shirt

Women's safari shirt on its own block, with bust shaping and a shorter shoulder than the men's pattern. Buttons are set on the opposite side by convention — confirm which side you want, as some markets and uniform programmes specify men's-side buttoning for both.

3 · Fit Notes For Women's Safari Shirts

1Bust darts or princess seams. Tell us which. A safari shirt with no shaping at all pulls across the chest button and gapes — the single most common complaint on women's field shirts.

2Chest pocket placement. On the women's block the bellows pockets sit slightly higher and narrower. Some buyers delete them entirely and keep only the epaulettes.

3Length and coverage. Standard back length is shown. For markets that expect more coverage we add 4–6 cm and a straighter side seam — specify at tech-pack stage.

4Button side. Women's convention is buttons on the wearer's left. Uniform programmes often override this for consistency — confirm before we cut.

These figures are our house block, not a fixed standard. Every measurement on both pages can be regraded to your own specification — send your existing size chart or a reference shirt that fits your customers and we will match it exactly, then confirm the graded set on the sample before bulk. For shirts we recommend approving the fit in three sizes across the run, since shoulder and sleeve errors compound at the top and bottom of the grade.
